What the Dome Was Built To Do

They call it the dome because that is the shape of it, but the shape was never the point.

A prison keeps you in. The dome was built to take something out. Memory at a particular frequency — the bright, nameable kind, the kind that answers when called. Lady Kadin's clients pay to watch it played back as performance, and the girls who supply it are told, every morning, that they have always lived here.

The water heals the marks. It does not heal what the marks are.

What the gold cannot read is the other kind of memory. The kind that lives below the frequency — in the hands, in the soles of the feet, in the slow heat of a heartbeat felt through clay. That is the memory this whole series is about.

More soon. Read it in the dark.

Keep reading below the dome.
